INTERVIEW: Rory Fresco
On Friday Kanye blessed the world with the return of G.O.O.D Friday when he released new track “Real Friends” and “No More Parties In L.A (Snippet)”. Along with announcing the release date for “SWISH” (Feb. 11th) he unexpectedly cosigned local 18 year old rapper Rory Fresco. After “Real Friends” ends on SoundCloud, Fresco’s track “LOWKEY” automatically starts. It went from 1,000 plays to a staggering 350,000 in the past ten days. We spoke with Fresco about his overnight success and plans for 2016 in the interview below.
How did you initially react when you saw “Lowkey” was gaining so much popularity on SoundCloud?
When I saw that it was gaining popularity, I was happy but not too happy because I realized I’m still in my parent’s basement, still working a normal job and still going to school. So I didn’t react how most people thought I would. It just made me want to go harder.
When did you realize you wanted to pursue music as a career?
When I was a kid, I knew I wanted to be an artist. It wasn’t until I was like 15 that I took it serious. Now I truly know this is what I want to do for life. Being a rapper is waaaaayyy more cooler than anything I could ever think of. I wanna inspire and change lives and show kids that they don’t always have to do the norm. Be what you want.
You’ve gained a large fan base in such a short amount a time, so there’s a lot of people waiting to see what you do next. Does this change your plans when it comes to releasing new music?
Not much, all the plans for releases are pretty much spot on. I do have a couple surprises though. ;)
What are some producers and artists you’d like to work with?
M.I.A, Kid Cudi, Chris Brown, and Pharrell are who I want to work with on the artist side. As far as producers, I make my own beats but it would be cool to work with HudMo and Dahi.

Albums you’re excited for?
SWISH, Views, and whatever M.I.A comes with next.
